Lake Tåkern is the paradise for birds and bird watchers. From the front row seat on the lodges’ balconies sea eagles, brown harriers, ospreys among other species can be spotted cruising by. Pounding tunes from the bittern hidden in the reeds can spookily be heard from far. During the spring, lapwings, redshanks and common snipes sing across the meadows. In May, the grey goose herd their chick, and through balmy nights, the spotted crake can be heard. During the autumn the “Big Lift” will be experienced. Thousands of geese and cranes are gathered to overnight in the lake. At dawn the magnificent spectacle takes place when flock followed by flock leave the lake to go graze on the fields nearby.
